2024 Page Prize Winners and Finalists

We’re excited to announce the results of The 2024 Page Prize in Creative Nonfiction, judged by Justin St. Germain!

1st place — Carolyn Mikulencak — “The Truth the Dying Know”
What our judge said: “The incantatory prose of "The Truth the Dying Know" won me over from the first line. By the time I finished this brilliant essay, I was repeating what the narrator's father says at the dinner table: Oh, my.

2nd place — Joanna Grisham — “A Magic Trick”
What our judge said: “The lean, visceral writing in "A Magic Trick" transports the reader into the narrator's head, stuck inside a tiger's mouth, wondering if we'll be OK, wondering just how real this is. An intense and beautifully rendered piece of writing.”

3rd place — Stephen Haines — “Man of the House”
What our judge said: "Man of the House" is blunt and bold and unafraid in its portrayal of childhood, the shame and danger of a group of boys becoming men. This is a funny, engrossing piece by a supremely talented writer.”

Finalists:
Darby Power — “Dictionary of Trans Horror Tropes”
Evan J. Massey — “We Sung Cadences & Woke Up Everything” Caitlin McGill — “Warped”
Irene Cooper — “The Year of the Knife”
Emma Kaiser — “The Deer Stand: a Prose Pantoum”
Julie Marie Wade — “Cliff Notes for Conversation”
Amethyst Loscocco — “Learning to Walk Again, Again, Again”

Congrats to all our finalists & a huge thank you to Justin St. Germain!
